The key to individual improvement is personal attention

Baseball today is dominated by talk of statistics and SABR metrics. At UP17®, we want to help remind young ballplayers that everything starts with the fundamentals – basic skills, best gained through personal instruction.

We’re committed to enriching our national pastime by giving players everywhere the opportunity to tap into the knowledge and expertise of those who’ve played the game at the highest level.

The Story Behind UP17

Our name is based on two things. “UP” is intended to convey that our services will help youth ballplayers “up their game.” The “17” is an homage to the inventor’s oldest brother, Steven Schultz, a talented baseball player who was about to sign a minor league contract when he was diagnosed with cancer. His playing days over, he committed himself to coaching and teaching others until he lost his battle with cancer at the age of 27. Along the way, he made an indelible impression on a number of young athletes – several of whom went on to play in the Major Leagues.

“I can honestly say I wouldn’t have gotten to the Major Leagues without Steve’s teaching and guidance. He helped me both mentally and physically grow during college and prepare for pro ball. He is truly missed.”
